What’s on Mikey’s Mind?

November 6, 2009

New kilns, Facebook, e-mails, economic recovery, and mostly, where the hell does the time go? I know we got an hour back, but gee wiz, has it really been that long since I updated?

There are a lot of things I would like to cover, but in an effort not to totally bore you, I’ll keep the comments down to a couple of items and plan on getting to the rest in a week or so. First, Facebook. Becca has been regularly updating the Blue Heron page so it’s current with what we are doing in the shop. There’s a spiffy little promotion going on where the fans get to choose the glass that will be on sale at the end of the month. Click on the link at the top of the page, go to the "discussion" section and join the fun.

We are in the process of hooking up with an e-mail service provider and developing an e-mail newsletter. As soon as you see a link to join either here or on the Facebook page you will know we have begun. Expect the first issue before Thanksgiving. Since we are just starting you should also expect a few flaws.  Let me know what you would like to see.  My plans at this point are to share some of the more fun information that comes along, some practical tips on glass working, and links to interesting places. It definitely won’t be another version of what’s on my mind, but the two will be related.

I spent a wonderful Monday a week or so ago with Cynthia over at Olympic Kilns. We are now distributors and I’m really excited about the line. We just received a pair of kilns that run on 120 v. Twenty amp breakers to boot! The smaller one is similar to a Paragon Caldera, but the big guy is massive. Seventeen and a half inches, flat to flat, octagonal firing chamber. This baby opens as either a top loader or a clamshell and the stand is a work of welded steel. Solid as a rock. Next week we are going to see what she can do. This is going to be fun. Remember, it’s only glass!
