What’s on Mikey’s Mind? April 13, 2010 Pollen. Lots of pollen. It’s on everyone’s mind, their cars, their cats, dogs, kids and everything else. Either the cooler, wetter winter lead to a bumper crop this year, or my memory of previous things is getting more hazy (could be the pollen, you should see the windshield of the truck). Also have a bunch of tent caterpillars this spring which brings to mind images of that wonderfully horrible Sci Fi thriller, Squirm! One of those late night movies that is really not worth watching other than to say you did (sort of like reading Pamela). We recently launched a monthly e-mail newsletter which has bit into the free time. It doesn’t explain why I haven’t posted here, but it is a contributing factor. If your not getting our e-news, there is a link somewhere on the web site that will let you painlessly sign up. While your at it, send along a question for the newsletter. Anything relating to glass is fair game. Considering the multifaceted world of ‘anything relating to glass’, I just got an invitation to join the American Glass Guild. Took me back to the early days of Blue Heron when I wanted to embrace as much of the decorative glass world as possible. I envisioned BHG heading up a census of stained glass in Charleston, doing some serious restoration work, and continuing to be the finest place to get quality instruction and supplies in coastal Carolina. I guess one out of three isn’t bad. There is just so much out there and so little time. This summer BHG will once again close at 3:00 on Thursdays so I can continue the never ending Sisyphean task of demonstrating the very real possibility of having a great time sailing in Charleston without spending a lot of money. There are a whole bunch of neglected Sunfish out there just waiting to get back in the water and I remain determined to put together a fun filled fleet of Thursday night regulars. Its an idea that really goes quite counter to Charleston Race Week, which is currently underway. If there is an economic recession, these guys haven’t heard about it. So, I’m edging my way into summer with a couple of fun shows on the horizon. Arts International up in Florence in late April and Piccolo Spoleto the first week of June. Somehow I need to produce enough work to make a legitimate showing, keep the commissions rolling through, teach a few classes, get the repairs done, weed the garden and find an afternoon or two to go sailing. Let the juggling begin.
